Angelo State University, or ASU for short, is a public, coeducational, doctoral level grating university located in San Angelo, which is a city in the US state of Texas, serving as the county seat of Tom Green County, with a population of more than 92 000, estimated during the 2009 census.
Angelo State was established in 1928, first starting as San Angelo College, achieving university status in 1967, when it also adopted its current name. It offers its students more than 100 undergraduate programs and 23 separate graduate programs, in various areas of study. In Princeton Review's 2011 rankings, ASU has been named one of `The Best 371 Colleges` and `Best in the West`.
ASU's sports teams call themselves the Rams, and they compete in NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference, in 13 men's and women's varsity sports, which include basketball, baseball, football, golf, volleyball and cross country. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold.
